Welsummers are one of my favorite breeds, they are so sweet/friendly and lay beautiful speckled eggs. Our birds came from different breeders including Alchemist Farm and Chicken Scratch Poultry. Welsummers are a heritage breed. They are friendly, curious, and trainable. They are known to be robust and healthy. This breed is the base to most olive egger breeds. They do not tend to go broody. They are very heat and cold-resistant, might need to protect combs in extreme cold though. They are great foragers. They lay medium-large tan/light brown/pink eggs with large brown speckles. They typically lay about 6-7 eggs/week or 250 eggs/year. They take about 5 months to reach maturity.
For our Welsummers, we are focusing on:
A hen that lays an abundance of good-quality heavily speckled eggs
A beautiful bird that meets APA Breed Standards
A bird with a good temperament
We plan on hatching out our Welsummers February-June each year.
