All of our herd has come from clean-tested herds in Washington State. We have looked at testing results before purchasing for CAE, CL, and Johne's.
At this time we are only testing for CAE annually at the end of show season as we are starting breeding season. For 2025, our testing is running a bit late and we are still working on sending in the samples. 2025 test results should be in by the end of January 2025 though.
We do test all new herd members for all three tests including CAE, CL, and Johne's before they join the herd. When new members are about to join our herd we will send in a pool of 5 poop samples to test for Johne's, this covers the majority of our herd.
At this time we do not test for CL or Johne's as the blood tests are not accurate. CL and Johne's are only accurate from samples directly from an abscess or fecal sample. We have never had an abscess on our goats and none of our goats have shown any signs or symptoms of Johne's. If you wish to have an animal you are planning on purchasing from us tested for CL or Johne's we ask that it be at your expense, $25 for Johne's testing and $20 for CL testing. We can complete the testing once payment is received. We just feel that these tests are only needed if symptoms are present in the herd and therefore do not complete them annually.
